Discussion About Second Life

After listening to today's class lecture on Second Life, I felt it would be an interesting topic to bring up for discussion on the Blog. I really find the whole website to be extremely interesting and think the idea of using a virtual world to interact with others is amazing. I feel that a program like this has the ability to change the ways in which people live their lives. Mainly, it will give people the ability to interact with others more frequently and will have the ability of letting users teach things to other users. However, I see one possible downfall for a program like this being that it could make people become too lazy to go out. For example, there is always the possibility that in the future, companies may try to market products to these users. Marketing products to a group of people who constantly use Second Life includes the possibility that people will become to comfortable with staying at home and will decide to use this program to run their lives rather than to be physically productive by getting out on their own two feet to accomplish tasks. Let me know how others feel about this program. I definitely feel this program has the chance to succeed; only time will tell.

Dia Day Los Muertos Parade

This Sunday November 4th was very interesting for all of those who attended the "Dia de los Muertos" parade on 4th Avenue. A huge parade was held as a remembrance to those who have passed away. This day is actually a holiday which is recognized nation-wide as "Dia de los Muertos" which is translated into "Day of the Dead." The parade was very interesting to watch. Many people painted their faces to resemble those who have passes away. Hand-created skeletons and paintings were raised above people's heads' as they made their way down the street. The overall experience was tremendous. It was very interesting to see the amount of time and creativity which was put forth into creating some of these masterful pieces of art. I had a great time and was glad to get the opportunity to be a part of such a wonderful tradition.

A Drive To LA

This upcoming weekend is going to be very dreadful. I will be partaking in an eight hour drive to LA, California. I will be visiting my family for the first time since school has started this semester. I have done this drive around ten times now and enjoy it less every time. Hopefully, the drive will go by faster than usual. The best way I found to keep myself entertained has been to bring many new CD's along on the ride. Also, it is important to have lots of snacks and water. If you can find a partner to come along for the journey, this will give you a companion to chat with. It is essential to constantly check your gas tank as well. I can only speak from experience when I tell you that this is very important and must not be overlooked. I have been strained before on the 10 freeway, waiting for AAA to bail me out with some gas. Someone finally arrived an hour after my cry for help. My friend and I were only given enough gas to make it to the closest gas station. This is not a situation that anyone would want to be stuck in. All and all, you need to be responsible and have lots of patience. Is there anyone out there who has gone on multiple hour drives? Do you have any advice for me that will make the time go by quicker?
